Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently led a key meeting to advance the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan. He underscored the dual benefits of EVs: reducing the country’s dependence on imported petrol and diesel, and promoting environmental sustainability.
During the meeting, Sharif called for the development of a detailed financial plan to support the EV initiative, with a target to finalize the E-Vehicles Policy by November. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Finance Ministry and the State Bank of Pakistan to ensure the policy’s success. The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for improved regulations for EV production and encouraged consultations with provincial governments and other stakeholders.
In addition, Sharif announced an exciting new program to reward high-achieving students in government schools with electric motorbikes, similar to the previous Laptop Scheme. He also declared that all Federal Government institutions will switch to electric motorbikes in the future, aiming to cut public expenses and support a greener approach to transportation. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to both economic and environmental progress.
