Karachi, September 25: The chairman, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Muhammad Saleem Baig , along with his team, visited the headquarters of United Producers Association (UPA), the sole representative trade body of Pakistani Television Producers on Saturday to discuss issues related to concerns of the producers fraternity.
The Chairman PEMRA emphasised the importance of producing content in alignment to cultural and social norms of the country that reflect and project the nation’s fundamental values in todays competitive global age of media.
Speaking on the occasion, UPA officials agreed to sensitizing its member producers about the role of entertainment media and its impact on the society.
During the meeting, UPA once again highlighted the longstanding issue of non-payment of dues by Chairman, Sports Star International & A-plus Television, Chaudhry Abdul Jabbar towards UPA member producers amounting to more than PKR. 302 Million Despite persistent meetings and reminders at all levels short of a legal Course of action.
The Chairman PEMRA was appraised that due to default and failure to honor financial and professional obligations by Chaudhry Abdul Jabbar, the Pakistani Television Drama producers are facing dismal financial situation forcing a few producers to suspend their productions altogether.
Chairman PEMRA, Mr. Saleem Baig reassured the UPA officials that as an independent Media body, PEMRA will take all necessary measures within the legal framework of PEMRA to help mediate and resolve this long pending issue.
