Chairman National Power and Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Taseef H. Farooqui announced the good news of cheaper electricity to the citizens of Karachi.
A hearing was held under the chairmanship of NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H. Farooqui regarding the adjustment of K Electric’s August fuel charges.
During the hearing, Chairman Nepra said that electricity will be cheaper by 4 rupees 87 paise for the consumers of Karachi, which will give them a relief of 8 billion 87 crore rupees.
In the briefing given during the hearing, it was stated that K Electric has requested Nepra to reduce the cost of electricity by 4 rupees 21 paise per unit.
Member Nepra KP Engineer Maqsood Anwar said that K Electric is making its electricity expensive while it takes cheap electricity from the National Grid.
Chairman Nepra said that K Electric is taking electricity from the National Grid at Rs 13 61 paise per unit, while it is making its own electricity at more than Rs 37. How can electricity be cheaper? K Electric is generating electricity at a cost of Rs 24 per unit compared to the National Grid.
Member Nepra KP said that if K Electric had reduced its electricity generation price, the consumer would have got a relief of Rs 6 per unit.
Chairman Nepra directed that K Electric should take steps to produce cheap electricity.
Nepra officials said that in the August adjustment, electricity will be cheaper by Rs 4 87 paisa per unit for K Electric customers.
Chairman Nepra said that we will set up an open court to listen to the problems of the consumers of Karachi.
K Electric officials said that there has been a fault in Unit One of the Port Qasim Power Plant, which teams are working to rectify.
Along with this, the hearing of K Electric’s August fuel charges adjustment in Nepra was completed.
