Pakistan economic hub and a mega city Karachi, from decades having transportation issue, it’s people do not have basic public transportation facility and forced to travel in obsolete scrap buses which are not properly fit as per international safety standards, it’s seats are torn, expired C.N.G. cylinders are installed and due to which many accidents and casualties are become routine, which become very common for the people of Karachi but still people of Karachi traveling in these buses as they have no other alternate which they adopt, as mostly low income / ordinary peoples are traveling in these obsolete buses.
In Karachi almost all people are affected with Karachi transportation issue but mostly females are affected with such issue as they are facing many difficulties to travel in such obsolete buses, which safety standards are not up to the mark, and also such buses are not sufficient in quantity, so bus drivers over loads such buses with passengers, but still women’s are traveling in these buses to reach their destinations, as they do not have any other mode of cheap transportation, however now some females started riding bikes which is the positive sign, but the ratio of such women’s are very low.
Other than Karachi, In Pakistan all major cities like Lahore, Multan, Peshawar etc effective transportation system like Metro Bus, Orange line bus is running, which helps people to reach their destinations timely, hassle free and safely on cheaper rates / government subsidized rates.
To overcome the gap of transportation issue, private sector also came forward but unable to cater all people needs, due to lack of vehicles and huge population. In the absence of quality public transportation system, many people now using their motorcycles / bikes to reach their destinations as due to which traffic issues are increasing day by day which creates many problem’s as many people stuck in traffic jam’s which is hectic for them.
The green line project which ground breaking was performed by honorable former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in 2016, now despite passing several years people of Karachi waiting for such mass transit as it becomes a dream for the people of Karachi because in past many deadlines given by different government officials and also several Sindh transport ministers changed, but still the project of green line not yet fully completed and not functional.
Many people and political parties criticizing and targeting government of Sindh that they are ruling in Sindh from last 13 years but unable to give quality transportation system to the people of Karachi which is true but there is no doubt on federal government and Sindh government intention, as they are doing efforts and understands the problems of people of Karachi and also committed to resolve their all issues on priority basis.
On several forums our honorable Prime Minister Imran Khan directed his team to continuously monitor the green line project progress and also urge his planning and development team to get in touch with Sindh government to make sure that green line project should complete within a reasonable time period so people start getting benefit from this mass transit project.
Now it’s a good news for the people of Karachi that after waiting long decades and traveling in over crowded dangerous buses, the project of green line will be operational soon as around 80 buses from Tianjin port china will reach Karachi soon and start running on Karachi street’s and seems that now Karachi transportation issue will resolve on permanent basis but government of Sindh also needs to make necessary arrangements for proper maintenance of such buses so these buses will keep running for a longer period.
