ISLAMABAD: A boat with approximately 65 passengers onboard capsized near the Marsa Dela port in Libya, the Foreign Office confirmed on Monday.
Pakistan’s embassy in Libya is currently gathering information regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the incident, which occurred near the port of Marsa Dela, located to the northwest of Zawiya city.
According to a statement by the Foreign Office spokesperson, the embassy in Tripoli has informed that the boat capsized in the vicinity of Marsa Dela, and a team was immediately dispatched to Zawiya hospital to assist local authorities in identifying the victims.
The embassy is also working to confirm the identities of the Pakistani citizens affected by this tragedy. To monitor the situation, the foreign ministry has activated its Crisis Management Unit, which is coordinating with Libyan officials and providing assistance where necessary.
This incident follows a similar tragedy last month, where a boat carrying 80 passengers capsized near Morocco. In that case, 13 Pakistani victims were confirmed, while over 40 Pakistanis were reported to have been murdered by human traffickers, with only 22 survivors.
