Karachi – TODAY (26th April) is birthday of Nitin Bose, a great name in Indian film history. Nitin Boss was a film director, cinematographer and screenwriter born on 26 April 1897 in Kolkata and died at the age of 88 on 14 April 1986 in the same city. He started his career as a cinematographer in 1926 in the movie Punarjanma. Bose was cinematographer of Natir Puja, the only film directed by Rabindranath Tagore. Some of his famous works are Devdas, Natir Puja, Dhoop Chhaon and President. The first use of playback singing in Indian films occurred in films directed by Bose in 1935: first in Bhagya Chakra, a Bengali film, and later the same year in its Hindi remake, Dhoop Chhaon. To recognize and appraise his work for the industry Indian government issued a postal stamp in 2013.
