On Friday, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), provided insight into his party’s position on the potential imposition of Governor Raj in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). While the PPP typically opposes Governor Rule, Bhutto acknowledged that given the current security crisis in KP, this option might need to be revisited.
In an interview with journalists after a National Assembly session, Bhutto stated, “PPP generally does not support Governor Rule except in very exceptional circumstances.” He highlighted that the 18th Amendment allows provincial assemblies to oversee and limit the duration of any Governor Rule imposed.
Bhutto also touched on the broader security issues affecting KP and Balochistan, calling for a unified approach from both federal and provincial governments. He added that discussions on the 19th Constitutional Amendment would involve seeking consensus from all political parties.
