Karachi : Chairman of Tehreek-e-Awam Pakistan, Zahid Awan, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic fire incident at Gul Plaza. He lamented the loss of precious lives and the substantial financial damage suffered by traders, stating that this tragedy is a moment of reflection for the entire city.
Zahid Awan demanded that the government fully compensate all affected victims, while immediate and adequate financial assistance should be provided to the families of the deceased to help alleviate their suffering.
The head of Tehreek-e-Awam Pakistan further called for the immediate formation of an empowered Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to conduct transparent inquiries into the incident. He stated that if any negligence, carelessness, or criminal misconduct is proven at any level, those responsible must be identified and punished strictly in accordance with the law.
He also emphasized that all major buildings, shopping plazas, and commercial centers in Karachi should be urgently inspected. Any identified structural or safety flaws must be rectified immediately to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Zahid Awan strongly criticized the performance of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), stating that it failed to act promptly and effectively after the incident. He said that the unusual delay in reaching the site allowed the fire to spread further, resulting in greater damage.
He demanded a thorough investigation into KMC’s role in the incident so that negligence, inefficiency, or incompetence is not repeated in future emergencies and citizens can receive timely relief.
