Ambassador Armellin visits Karachi, the capital of Sindh.

Karachi: The Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, is visiting Karachi, in the province of Sindh, the economic and financial capital of the country and the hub of maritime transport and logistics in the area of the Indian sub-continent and the Persian Gulf .

Accompanied by the Italian Consul in Karachi, DaniloGiurdanella, Ambassador Armellin met with the highest provincial authorities, the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, the Head of Government of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, as well as the Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab.  With institutional interlocutors, the commitment to strengthen the already consolidated bilateral relations in every sector of cooperation; economic, commercial, cultural, linguistic, inter-university and healthcare, was reiterated.  In particular, the collaboration between the Gaslinihospital in Genoa and the National Institute for Child Health in Karachi for pediatric training and inter-university cooperation with the Universities of Udine, Florence, La Sapienza and LUISS were mentioned.

Ambassador Armellin also met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Pakistan, based in Karachi, Jamil Ahmed, who illustrated the state of the Pakistani economy and the development and investment opportunities for Italian entrepreneurs, as well as the President of the Port Authority, Syed Syedain Raza Zaidi, and the CEO, Rear Admiral RizwanAhmed, with whom Possibilities for cooperation in the maritime and port sector were discussed.

The Italian envoy paid a visit to the Mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, where Ambassador Armellin laid a wreath to honor the great leader. The heritage sites of Flag Staff House and Mohatta Palace were also visited by Lady Ambassador.

During her visit in Sindh, Ambassador Armellin also visited the necropolis of Makli and Chowkandi as well as the archaeological site of Bhanbore, where Italy is engaged with Sindh government through it’s Archaeological team. A visit to Shahjahan mosque in Thatta- a reminiscent of Mughal architecture built in the 17th century was also organized by the Provincial Minister of Culture, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, who was present with the Italian delegation. She also met with Sindh Minister of Education, Syed Sardar Shah during her visit to interior Sindh. It was a culturally enriching experience to witness the remnants of the Indus Valley civilization.

Karachi being the economic capital of the country, Ambassador Armellin interacted with diverse cross section of the society,which included members of the Italian Development Committee as well as other reputable business houses doing business with Italy. She also met with the athletes of Special Olympics and the members of the Women Entrepreneur Network to exchange ideas on enhancing bilateral engagement between similar counterparts in Italy.

The Ambassador will remain in Karachi until Sunday 5.
