INDIA : An Indian court has sentenced three suspects to death for the attack, rape and murder of foreign tourists. According to Indian media, the three accused who have been sentenced to death after being found guilty include 27-year-old Sharan Nipa, 22-year-old Mallesh, and 21-year-old Sai. The trio had reached the famous tourist destination of Sanabpur Lake on a motorcycle on the night of March 6, 2025, where 5 tourists had gathered to watch the stars at night. The suspects approached the tourists under the pretext of asking them for directions to a petrol pump and then started asking them for money. When the tourists did not give them the money they demanded, the suspects became enraged and tortured them. They pushed the male tourists into the lake. Two of the male tourists managed to swim to the other shore safely, but one drowned. Meanwhile, the three suspects gang-raped the two female tourists and then fled after snatching their mobile phones and cash. One of the women who were raped was a 27-year-old Israeli, while the other was a 29-year-old Indian host whose home was hosting tourists. The three male tourists include American tourist Daniel Pattas, 23, Indian tourist Pankaj Patel, 42, and 26-year-old Bibi Kumar Naik. Among them, Bebish Kumar Naik, from the Indian state of Odisha, was pushed into the lake and drowned.
