Karachi : A seminar on health and safety held at the FPCCI House drew attention to the growing
health challenges facing the country. The event was organized by Khalida Saleem Khan, the Women
Coordinator FPCCI (South Zone) and convener FPCCI Sindh Regional Standing Committee on Food,
Safety & Security. Distinguished speakers and guests, including Dr. Nafisa Shah, former MNA of the
Pakistan Peoples Party, and Aslam Shaikh, Member Judicial II-, Legal and Coordination at the Sindh
Human Rights Commission, shared their insights.
Dr. Nafisa Shah, the Chief Guest of the seminar, emphasized the alarming increase in diseases across
Pakistan. She stressed the need to implement the World Health Organization’s (WHO) motto of
“Health for All.”
Dr. Saamiya Taslim, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Hamdard University echoed
this sentiment, underlining the importance of improving the environment to control diseases and
advocating for increased health research and healthier lifestyles.
Aslam Sheikh, the Guest of Honor, proposed a shift towards herbal medicine as an alternative to
allopathic remedies to combat diseases. He cited examples from countries like China and India
where herbal medicine has gained prominence.
Professor Rafiq Khanani brought attention to a concerning statistic, noting that a significant portion
of diseases, approximately 80%, is attributed to the consumption of unhealthy water. The presence
of bacteria in water sources has risen, posing a major health risk.
Khalida Saleem Khan, the event’s organizer, stressed the importance of adequate sleep, suggesting
that 8 hours of sleep is essential for maintaining good health. She also recommended incorporating
protein-rich foods like eggs, milk, and nuts into regular diets.
The seminar served as a platform to raise awareness about the pressing health issues in Pakistan and
to encourage efforts towards a healthier and disease-free future.
