Houston TX – This Easter Monday, April 10, 2023, Alliance for Disaster Relief (AFDR) and Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) gathered with collaborating partners to send off container of resources for earthquake victims of Tukey and Syria.
Attendees included Congressman Al Green, Assistant Consulate General of Pakistan Ashar Shehzad, as well as Juviana Esquivel who is the Operations Manager for 7 Amazon warehouses.
Collaborative partners in attendance included Saeed Sheikh and Dr. Yaqoub of Alliance For Disaster Relief (AFDR), Ghulam Bombaywala of Zeenat Foundation, Mahmoud Marfani of Marfani Foundation, Farah Iqbal of TV1, PJ Sawati of Hazara Foundation, Mahmoud Ahmad of Urdu Times, Jamil Siddiqui of Pakistan Chronicle, Karman Jelani of BOL TV, David Godwin from the Sister Cities and Friends of Karachi.
Students from Houston Quran Academy (HQA) were also present to send 500 goodie bags that they had prepared for the child victims of the earthquake; & one of them did a heart-wrenching Tilawat of the Quran.
Items loaded in the container estimated to worth is $200,000+ for all new items, including the following:
- 100 Tents
- 200 Sleeping Bags
- 800 Sweaters (men, women, and children)
- 720 Accessories (throws)
- 900 Active Wear Men’s Jackets
- 720 Shoes
- 2 Pallets of activewear socks and t-shirts
- 700 Blankets from Amazon
And much more.
$1,000 were donated by Congressman Al Green to AFDR for continued efforts for earthquake victims.
HHRD Houston is planning to send off a third container this month to provide further resources for said earthquake victims.
HHRD USA has an ongoing appeal of $10 million; and together with all donors including AFDR has assisted more than 300,000 persons in Türkiye & Syria; and presently 250 homes are being built in Syria for those suffering from the aftermath of the two historic earthquakes of February 2023.
