Federal Minister for Industries and Production Syed Murtaza Mehmood chaired an important meeting at Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), Karachi on 12th December, 2022. The Federal Minister for Industries and Production was presented a detailed presentation and briefing by the Chairman, Export Processing Zones Authority(EPZA), Dr. Saifuddin Junejo over the performance and challenges of Export Processing Zones Authority(EPZA).
The Federal Minister Syed Murtaza Mehmood evaluated the performance of EPZs(Economic Processing Zones) and EPZA(Export Processing Zones Authority). He applauded the performance of the EPZA and its management under the chairmanship of present Chairman, Dr. Saifuddin Junejo.
While emphasizing the role of EPZA(Export Processing Zones Authority) in promoting the exports of Pakistan, the minister said that this country has great potential to be utilized, cheap labor and raw material to be used for productive growth of the country. Our main concern should be to promote exports of the country and devising the export friendly policies for the investors in order to maximise the net exports and minimise trade deficit, he further added.
The issues of constitution of the effective board, Gujranwala and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce concerns against EPZs(Economic Processing Zones)were discussed, and the Minister ensured his complete support to resolve the issues meeting with Prime Minister and Governor Punjab regarding the issues of Sialkot and Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce issues related to EPZs(Export Processing Zones). He further said that the main issue of the Export Processing Zones Authority(EPZA) had been the inconsistent policies of the predecessors; the outdated policies shall be changed to make them investor friendly if needed.
Later on, the Federal Minister for Industries and Production held a meeting with the investors and listened their problems and suggestions to promote the exports of Pakistan. The Investors raised their issues of non cooperation of Pakistan Customs and appealed to Federal Minister to redress their grievances. The Federal Minister ensured his complete support to redress their grievances by meeting with Prime Minister, Chairman FBR and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Industries and Production. The meeting ended with token of thanks and vision to promote trade and export.
