Japanese Film Festival 2026 to Bring Six Films to Karachi’s Arts Council
Japanese Film Festival 2026 brings Japanese cinema to Karachi.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi will host the Japanese Film Festival 2026 in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association Sindh (PJCA) and the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.
The festival will open on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Auditorium 1 of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi. The inaugural screening will begin at 5pm and will feature Children of the Sea.
The organisers said the festival will present six acclaimed Japanese films. The programme aims to give Karachi audiences an opportunity to explore contemporary Japanese cinema while strengthening cultural ties between Japan and Pakistan.
Six Japanese Films Featured
The festival lineup includes Children of the Sea, Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko, Ride Your Wave, BISHU: The World’s Kindest Clothes, Lu Over the Wall and The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

The opening screening will welcome the public. Meanwhile, organisers will hold five additional screenings exclusively for students and audiences from selected partner universities across Karachi.
The diverse lineup will showcase different aspects of Japanese filmmaking, including animation, drama, romance and contemporary storytelling.
Free Entry for Opening Screening
Entry to the inaugural screening will be free. However, attendees must complete online registration before the event.
The opening programme will also include remarks by the Consul-General of Japan in Karachi and the Chief Guest.
The Consulate-General said the festival seeks to promote Japanese cinema and create opportunities for cultural exchange between Japan and Pakistan.
Moreover, the university screenings will allow young audiences to engage more closely with Japanese culture and filmmaking.
The Japanese Film Festival 2026 is expected to provide Karachi audiences with a broader understanding of Japan’s cinematic traditions and contemporary creative expression.
