Karachi Mosque Dispute Emirati Tycoon Appeals to Asim Munir After Three-Year Standoff

Suhail Al Zarooni appeals for intervention over the Sakina Sultan Mosque dispute in Karachi.
The Karachi mosque dispute has entered its third year as Emirati businessman Suhail Muhammad Al Zarooni seeks Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s intervention.
Al Zarooni, Chairman of the Al Zarooni Group, wants authorities to resolve the dispute over Sakina Sultan Mosque in Defence Phase 8.
Three-Year Dispute
Al Zarooni built the mosque in 2006 in memory of his late mother, Sakina Sultan.
He says the mosque has remained under occupation for three years. He has also approached senior civil and military officials for help.
In 2024, Al Zarooni sent letters to several senior officials. They included the Chief of Army Staff, Corps Commander Karachi and DG Pakistan Rangers Sindh.
He also contacted the Sindh police chief, chief minister and governor.

Appeal to Asim Munir
Al Zarooni says authorities have yet to resolve the matter. He also says a court issued orders concerning the mosque’s possession.
However, appeals filed by the occupants have kept the dispute alive, according to Al Zarooni.
He has now asked Field Marshal Asim Munir to personally examine the matter. He wants the authorities to restore the mosque to its rightful management.
Concerns Over UAE Confidence
The Emirati businessman also warned about the wider impact of the dispute.
He said UAE businessmen support charitable and welfare projects in Pakistan. A prolonged dispute, he added, could weaken their confidence in the country’s philanthropic environment.
Al Zarooni said a quick resolution would protect charitable institutions. It could also strengthen the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the UAE.
