PPP STRONGHOLD SHAIB DAD VILLAGE VOICES DEPRIVATION OVER WATER, DRAINAGE CRISIS

KARACHI: Residents and political workers of Shaib Dad Village in Malir have expressed deep
concern over the prolonged lack of basic civic facilities despite the area being regarded as one
of the Pakistan Peoples Partys (PPP) longstanding strongholds.
The concerns were raised during a meeting of the Malir City Action Committee, chaired by
senior social and political figure Lala Shaukat Qadir Bakhsh Baloch, with the participation of a
large number of PPP workers, office-bearers, local elders, and community representatives,
including UC Chairman Ghazi Daud Malir and several prominent residents.
Addressing the gathering, Lala Shaukat Qadir Bakhsh Baloch said that Shaib Dad Village, one of
the oldest settlements in Malir dating back to before the creation of Pakistan, has long
remained neglected despite its political significance. He said the residents continue to suffer
from a growing sense of deprivation and disappointment due to the non-resolution of their
longstanding civic issues.
Participants noted that although the Malir Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) recently spent
millions of rupees laying a network of drinking water pipelines across the locality, residents
have yet to receive a regular supply of potable water. They expressed regret that repeated
assurances and technical explanations have failed to resolve the issue, leaving the community
frustrated.
The speakers further highlighted that with the monsoon season approaching, the discharge of
acidic and contaminated wastewater from the Malir Industrial Area poses a serious threat to
the village. They warned that the polluted water frequently floods streets and residential areas,
causing damage to property and increasing the spread of skin diseases and other health
hazards. They urged the authorities to immediately construct a proper drainage line to divert
the industrial effluent and prevent further suffering.
PPP local leaders, including Wajah Sajid Haider Baloch, Master Muhammad Akbar Qadri, Master
Nauman Sarwar Baloch, Abid Baloch, Shahnawaz Baloch, Master Qayyum Baloch, Adil Baloch,
Zafar Baloch, Sikandar Baloch, Amjad Kaka, and Nabeel Ahmed Baloch, appealed to Member of
the National Assembly Abdul Hakeem Baloch, Member of the Provincial Assembly Muhammad
Saleem Baloch, and Chairman TMC Malir Jan Baloch to set aside differences and jointly work for
the resolution of the area's civic problems.
The meeting also demanded the construction of a community centre in Shaib Dad Village,
noting that it remains the only locality in District Malir without such a public facility. Speakers
further called for the rehabilitation of the area's old football stadium and the restoration of the
water storage tanks built at a cost of millions of rupees, which are currently lying in a
dilapidated condition.
The participants urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and practical measures to
resolve the drinking water shortage, improve the drainage system,
