In a statement, Mariam Saba Chaudhary recalled her experience while staying with her family at the Officers’ Mess in Muzaffarabad when tensions escalated dramatically. She described how the situation quickly turned into panic, with a complete blackout across the city—electricity, internet, and communication networks were all shut down.
Residents were instructed to avoid any visible light, including switching on lights or even mobile phone screens, due to the risk of attracting enemy fire. “The city was in darkness, and fear gripped everyone,” she stated.
During this critical time, she praised the role of the Pakistan Army, noting that alongside their operational duties, they ensured the safety of civilians. Her family was safely evacuated and relocated to a secure area by army personnel.
Chaudhary highlighted the uncertainty they faced, with minimal contact with the outside world and limited information about the broader situation. Eventually, the family reached Islamabad, only to find that airspace had been shut down.
After waiting nearly 10 hours at the airport without any available flights, the family undertook a difficult 24-hour road journey to Karachi, arriving home safely after days of distress and uncertainty.
Reflecting on the experience, she said it reshaped her perspective on life, reinforcing the value of peace, security, and strong national leadership. She expressed appreciation for key figures including Asim Munir, Shehbaz Sharif, and Ishaq Dar for their role during the crisis.
She also paid tribute to those who lost their lives, honoring their sacrifices and acknowledging their role in safeguarding the nation.
The account stands as a reminder of the human impact of conflict and the critical importance of coordinated response, resilience, and national unity during times of crisis.
