KARACHI (Economic Reporter) The much-anticipated FPCCI Achievement Awards, held on 23-12-23 at Serena Hotel Islamabad, turned out to be a resounding failure in every aspect. Despite issuing over three thousand invitations, the event was attended by a mere 200 guests, including personal guards, security staff, and drivers.
Governor Sindh and Governor KPK graced the occasion, possibly drawn by personal affiliations, as the younger brother of Governor Sindh is contesting the FPCCI election, and Governor KPK is a representative of the small chamber and secretary general of the ruling group.
The management’s dismal performance at this event mirrors the earlier failure of the FPCCI Export Awards function held in mid of current year in Karachi.
Considered by many as an election campaign for the current FPCCI management, it fell flat, failing to attract both old and new members of the general body, who seemed disinterested which is very much alarming to the ruling group.
Trade body members see this event’s failure as a reflection of the impending election, hinting at a potential sweep by the opposition. With only a few days left until the FPCCI election, the management has exhausted its efforts to keep the opposition at bay. The Secretary-General of FPCCI, who aligned himself with the ruling party and became embroiled in court cases against the opposition, now finds himself counting his days in FPCCI.
