A suicide blast in the Afghan city of Kunduz killed 25 people and injured several others on Tuesday.
According to Afghan media, the explosion took place outside a bank when salaries were being paid to government employees.
No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far. Most of those killed in the blast were Taliban members, according to local sources.
Among those killed was Zakariya, a Taliban security commander for Kunduz’s Police District 4, sources confirmed.
The Taliban police in Kunduz confirmed that the explosion outside a Kabul Bank branch in the city on Tuesday morning was a suicide bombing, stating that it killed five people, including both civilians and Taliban members, and injured seven others.
The explosion occurred around 8:30 a.m. local time, and the bodies of those killed have been taken to the Taliban’s 217 Omari Corps clinic, sources said.
The attack comes weeks after the Taliban ordered their military and security personnel to avoid banks when collecting their salaries and instead use designated locations.
According to eyewitnesses, 17 bodies were brought to Kunduz District Hospital, and some dead bodies and injured were also brought to other hospitals. Most of the dead were Taliban officials. After the explosion, Afghan security forces surrounded the area and started rescue operations.
