TRINIDAD — Pakistan vs West Indies ended in disappointment for the visitors as the West Indies secured a commanding 90-run victory in the opening Test, thanks to a relentless pace attack that dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up for the second consecutive innings.
Chasing a challenging target of 211 on a deteriorating pitch, Pakistan were bowled out for just 120 in 40.2 overs on the fourth day, handing the hosts a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The visitors appeared headed for an even heavier defeat after collapsing to 71-9 before captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Abbas added a resilient 49-run partnership for the final wicket. Jayden Seales eventually wrapped up the innings by trapping Abbas leg before wicket for 23.
Babar remained unbeaten with 58, offering the only significant resistance in Pakistan’s innings.

Seales and Greaves Lead West Indies Victory
Jayden Seales delivered a match-winning performance, claiming five wickets for 20 runs in Pakistan’s second innings.
Justin Greaves also played a decisive role throughout the match, finishing with match figures of seven wickets for 39 runs to earn the Player of the Match award.
Earlier, West Indies added 55 valuable runs to their overnight total, with Shamar Joseph scoring a quickfire 38 from just 27 balls, including four sixes and a boundary, to push the home side’s second innings total to 181.
Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Abbas produced an outstanding spell of his own, taking five wickets for 22 runs, but his efforts were not enough to prevent defeat.
Pakistan’s Batting Struggles Continue
Pakistan’s batting problems resurfaced after a similar collapse in the first innings, where they lost seven wickets for 38 runs to surrender a promising position.
The defeat marked Pakistan’s fourth consecutive Test loss and their eighth successive defeat in away Test matches.
It also extended the team’s disappointing record to 13 defeats in their last 17 Test matches.
Former captain Shan Masood, who was nursing a fractured finger sustained during his first-innings century, returned to bat despite the injury but was dismissed after a courageous effort.
Captains Reflect on the Match
West Indies captain Roston Chase praised the collective effort of his team following only his second Test victory as captain.
He said every player contributed at important moments rather than relying on individual performances.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam admitted his side failed to build meaningful partnerships despite anticipating difficult batting conditions.
He credited the West Indies bowlers for making full use of the pitch and the movement available with the new ball.
The second and final Test of the series will begin on Sunday at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, where Pakistan will look to level the series.
