Islamabad, March 31, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed authorities to take strict action against the smuggling and illegal hoarding of petroleum products, citing the evolving regional situation and rising energy pressures.

The announcement followed a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister, which reviewed the petroleum supply chain, conservation measures, and steps to ensure market efficiency. PM Sharif stressed the government’s commitment to protecting low-income segments, instructing ministries to submit recommendations in consultation with provincial authorities.
He also highlighted that over Rs129 billion in relief had been provided to the public through austerity and savings measures to prevent fuel price hikes. Officials reported that petroleum supply and demand are being monitored via a digital dashboard for transparency and efficiency.
The meeting included senior ministers, such as Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, and Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari, among others.
PM Sharif emphasised that no leniency would be shown toward those involved in illegal stockpiling, warning that strict enforcement is key to maintaining market stability.
