Jamshoro, Sindh: Forty young women engineers from rural Sindh have received hands-on training in solar roof installation, leadership, and team-building under the LADIESFUND Solar Roof Installation Training Program at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro. The initiative, implemented by Dawood Global Foundation (DGF) and sponsored by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) and DGF’s Educate a Girl program, equips participants with technical skills and industry-relevant experience for Pakistan’s growing renewable energy sector.

The participants came from some of the most rural districts of Sindh, including Sanghar, Badin, Ghotki, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Khairpur, Tando Allah Yar, Jamshoro, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Larkana, Dadu, Matiari, and Shaheed Benazirabad. The training provided them with practical expertise in solar roof installation, system maintenance, and safety standards, as well as leadership, business, and team-building skills.

Twenty-five students were sponsored by OGDC, while fifteen were supported through DGF’s Educate a Girl initiative. As part of the program’s applied learning component, trainees will also contribute to solarization projects at Darul Aman Women’s Shelter in Hyderabad, further extending the program’s community impact. Internship opportunities with Dawood Global Foundation, OGDC, and LADIESFUND Energy are available to the participants, strengthening pathways from training to professional engagement in the clean energy sector.

The program was inaugurated by Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, Commissioner Hyderabad, who highlighted the importance of technical training and women’s participation in STEM fields. Zain Ul Abedin Qasmani, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, joined as Guest of Honour, reaffirming the administration’s support for inclusive, skills-based development. The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Tauha Ali, Vice Chancellor MUET, and the Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, underscoring institutional backing for women’s empowerment.

Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi said, “This initiative is not just about solar training; it is about empowering our youth with skills that shape their future. Real leadership lies in creating opportunities for others and giving back to society.”

Zain Ul Abedin Qasmani added, “It is inspiring to see so many female engineers stepping confidently into the field of renewable energy. Programs like this break barriers and build leadership among young women.”

Tara Uzra Dawood, CEO of Dawood Global Foundation and LADIESFUND Energy, said, “This solarization training empowers women to lead, innovate, and take on challenges anywhere in the world. With hands-on experience and support from DGF, LADIESFUND Energy, OGDC, and MUET, these brilliant young women are stepping into a future of limitless opportunity.”

Sumbal Wahab, Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Officer at OGDC, said, “Programs like this not only uplift communities but also create opportunities for women to start ventures, take charge, and make a real impact in society. I am confident these young engineers will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

Aaisha Zaidi, a final-year Electrical Engineering student at MUET from Sanghar, said, “Being part of LADIESFUND Energy has been transformative. I have gained hands-on experience installing solar PV panels and testing systems, strengthening my goal of pursuing a Master’s in renewable energy and building a meaningful career in this field.”

The Deputy Commissioner Office Hyderabad expressed gratitude to Tara Uzra Dawood, Sumbal Wahab, Dr. Tauha Ali, and Dr. Nasrullah Pirzada for their steadfast support and facilitation of the program. This initiative reflects Dawood Global Foundation’s ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment through technical education, sustainable livelihoods, and climate-resilient development across Pakistan.
