A United Airlines passenger accidentally boarded the wrong flight and ended up in another country. According to a foreign news agency report, the American passenger was traveling from Los Angeles to Managua, Nicaragua, but ended up in Tokyo, Japan. A United Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident. The spokesperson said, “We have followed up with airport management to understand how this happened.” The airline management contacted the passenger to apologize and offer compensation. The spokesperson says that we always advise passengers to monitor signs and boarding announcements at the gate to ensure that the aircraft they board is going to the intended destination. According to the report, the passenger realized during the flight that he was on the wrong plane and asked the flight attendant why the trip to Houston was taking six hours instead of three. The passenger landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan, and stayed in a hotel for two nights while United Airlines arranged his itinerary. The airline initially offered a $300 travel credit as an apology, but later offered $1,000.
