The Central Organization of Traders Pakistan (COTP) has demanded a judicial investigation into the Gul Plaza incident, calling it a result of state negligence and criminal apathy.
COTP President Muhammad Kashif Chaudhry stated that the incident was not just an accident, but a consequence of state failure. He demanded a transparent and impartial judicial probe with trader representatives, warning against attempts to shift blame or distort facts.
Chaudhry announced the formation of an empowered traders’ action committee to engage with federal and provincial governments and relevant forums. He demanded that the Sindh Chief Minister apologize to the victims’ families and ensure financial aid within a week.
Expressing outrage, Chaudhry said Karachi generates 72% of revenue, yet children are dying in gutters, citizens are being crushed under dumpers, and traders are burning to death, with no response from authorities.
He warned that if demands aren’t met, there will be a nationwide shutdown, and the Sindh Chief Minister’s and Governor’s houses will be surrounded.
