Pakistan’s Foreign Office reiterated the country’s desire to address the issue of terrorism with Afghanistan through dialogue and cooperation. This statement comes in the wake of recent air strikes against Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group targets in Afghanistan, following an attack on a Frontier Corps camp by militants based there.

Speaking at a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan prioritizes dialogue and cooperation in finding solutions to mutual concerns. She highlighted Pakistan’s engagement in conversations with Afghanistan to combat the threat of terrorism emanating from groups based in Afghanistan.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also emphasized Pakistan’s stance, stating in an interview that Pakistan does not seek armed conflict with Afghanistan. He underscored that force is a last resort and that the recent air strikes were a response to cross-border terrorism that has grown significantly.

Pakistan’s efforts to engage with Afghanistan in combating terrorism include a longstanding proposal for joint action against terrorist groups. The Foreign Office spokesperson expressed hope for future collaboration between the two countries in finding joint solutions to combat terrorism.

While Pakistan remains open to dialogue, the spokesperson did not rule out the possibility of future strikes inside Afghanistan. However, she reiterated Pakistan’s respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing that the recent operation was targeted against terrorist hideouts and not the Afghan government or people.

Defence Minister Asif also warned that Pakistan could block the trade corridor to Afghanistan if Kabul fails to curb terrorists operating against Pakistan from Afghan soil. He urged Afghanistan to control groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to prevent future conflicts.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s statements reflect its commitment to addressing terrorism through dialogue and cooperation with Afghanistan, while also emphasizing its right to self-defense and protection of its interests.
