KARACHI: Chairman Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) Asif
Sumsum, expressing deep sorrow over death of five people in a an illegal building collapse in
Shah Faisal Colony here on Wednesday, has demanded of the government to take stern action
against construction of illegal buildings in Karachi and people involved in this illegal activities.
Asif Sumsum said that this is not first incidence of collapse of an illegally built building in
Karachi but dozens of people have been died in such incidences in this mega city. He urged
Sindh Caretaker Minister for Housing and Local Governments Mubin Jumani to take serious
notice of this horrible incidence and take actions against all responsible perpetrators.
He said that ABAD has always raised voice against illegal construction in Karachi because
illegal construction is not affecting Master Plan and Municipal Policies but also badly damaging
infrastructure of the city. He said that the government should not allow so called builders and
contractors for constructing illegal buildings because saving lives of people and their properties
is the responsibility of the government.
The widespread illegal constructions in Karachi are real challenge to Sindh Building Control
Authority (SBCA) and Master Plan Department; he said adding that people involved in illegal
constructions are not only denting national exchequer but also giving loss to law abiding builders
and developers. He also asked utilities services to do not provide electricity, water and sewerage
connections to illegally built buildings. If the government will not take action against
perpetrators of constructing multi-story building on 80 squire yards’ of plot in Shah Faisal
Colony, where five people lost their lives and many injured, such incidences will continue in the
city and people lose their lives.
